On Wednesday, May 30th, around 8:30 pm, the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a runaway 12 year old male near Big Sky.  The male was last seen around 5:40 pm in a heavily wooded area adjacent to an urban area.  An unsuccessful initial search was conducted by friends and family of the missing boy and several law enforcement officers.

Concerned about the age of the male, the oncoming darkness, and the inherent dangers of the area, Gallatin County Deputies led a combined backcountry and urban search for the missing child.  Multiple deputies, the Big Sky division of Gallatin County Search and Rescue, the Montana Highway Patrol, and members of the Big Sky Fire Department searched several urban and backcountry areas for the boy.

Around 10:30 pm, the Chief of the Big Sky Fire Department located the missing juvenile in a local movie theater.  The boy was watching television in a lobby area.  He was safely returned to his mother.
