On May 30, 2012, at approximately 5:25 PM, Kathleen McDunn called 911 from her residence at 3103 Springhill Road. Kathleen reported that her husband, Henry McDunn, had been shot by a female identified as Diana Arnold. She reported that her husband was holding the defendant down waiting for deputies to arrive and within approximately 5 minutes Arnold was taken into custody.
Our investigation revealed that Mr. McDunn was shot twice, once in the head and a second time in the chest. Mr. McDunn was taken to Bozeman Deaconess Hospital (BDH) with one gunshot wound to the chest, and one to the back of the head that exited near his left eyebrow.
Investigators learned that the McDunns and Arnold had been involved in an ongoing civil lawsuit prior to this incident.
Deputies discovered where a screen had been cut out and a ladder had been placed against the house to gain entry. Investigators found a .22 caliber pistol, along with evidence to support the charge of Attempted Arson. Deputies located Arnold’s car approximately 1/3 of a mile from the scene and the vehicle was seized.
Arnold was taken to BDH due to injuries she sustained during the altercation with Mr. McDunn. At this time, both Arnold and Mr. McDunn remain in BDH. Arnold is in our custody and will be transported to the Detention Center upon release from the hospital. She will be charged with Attempted Deliberate Homicide 45-5-102, Aggravated Burglary 45-6-204(2b), and Attempted Arson 45-6-103.
Our investigation is ongoing. If you have any questions, please contact Sheriff Gootkin.
