Lava Lake Hiker Assisted by Rescuers

(Big Sky, Mont) On Sunday, July 14th, 2013, around 12:50 pm, the Big Sky Division of Gallatin County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue and an American Medical Response ambulance responded to the Lava Lake trailhead for a backcountry rescue. Hikers called the Gallatin County dispatch center to report a 52 year old male about 1.5 miles up the trail having difficulty getting back to the parking lot. The male was shaky, had shortness of breath, and had a tingling sensation in his arms. The male was eventually able to walk to the trailhead on his own, where he was evaluated by the waiting ambulance.

Sheriff Gootkin would like to remind the public that if you run into trouble in the back country and know that rescuers are en route, as a general rule, it is better to stay in place and wait for help to come to you.  #####
