Hard Work Paying Off For Crews on the Millie Fire

Bozeman, MT – The Millie Fire, located 20 miles south of Bozeman, has reached 65 percent containment and is 10,185 acres. The change in acreage is due to more accurate mapping.

Observed fire behavior today was a mixture of smoldering and creeping with low flames in subalpine fir and mixed conifer.

Today, crews continued fire suppression repair work on containment lines on the west and southwest portions of the fire. Crews mopped up and worked to extend firelines along the north and south perimeters of the fire, and began suppression repair where mop up has been completed. Helicopters continued to drop water on hot spots along the fire perimeter where ground crews are unable to work due to steep and rugged terrain.

The fire is currently staffed with 329 personnel including 7 crews, 5 helicopters, 10 engines, 3 dozers, 1 water tender, and miscellaneous overhead.

The Great Basin Incident Management Team #4 will return management of the Millie Fire to the Gallatin National Forest this Friday September 14. There will be over 100 firefighters remaining to support the local incident management team. This includes aircraft, handcrews and dozers.

The area closure around the fire remains in place. This includes the South Cottonwood Trail, Hyalite Canyon, Leverich Canyon and Little Bear Road at the Forest boundary, as well as the Storm Castle Road/Canyon, Swan Creek Road above the campground, and the Moose Creek Road above north of Tamphrey Road slit.

Additional Fire Information meetings have yet to be scheduled. For more information, please call 877-405-0033 or 877-390-4323.
