Firefighters Persistently Patient on the Millie Fire
Bozeman, MT – The Millie Fire, twenty miles south of Bozeman is 10,191 acres and is now 15 percent contained. Extremely rough terrain makes work slow, but firefighters patiently persevere, making steady and effective progress around the fire.
On the southwest and west sides of the fire, crews will be cleaning up the spot fires remaining, as well as continuing mop up. Structure protection around Blanchard Ranch, and hose lay will continue.
On the north side mop up near the upper end of South Cottonwood Creek is the order of the day.
Crews will construct containment line on the south flank, moving east, and clean up remaining spot fires.
Reconnaissance and scouting for contingency line location in Hyalite Canyon and in Cottonwood Canyon continue.
Four helicopters are assigned to the incident. Two heavy helicopters will be dropping water to slow fire progression throughout the day as conditions allow. The two smaller ships will be used for reconnaissance and equipment supply.
Crews camping on the north end of the fire remain alert for the presence of large predators. Bears are becoming more active as they fatten up for the upcoming winter.  A few bears have been observed by firefighters.  Firefighters are diligent in their efforts to maintain clean camps which do not attract bears.
Today there are 12 crews, 23 engines, four helicopters, nine dozers and four water tenders working on the fire.  A total of 522 personnel are assigned to the incident.
There will be no Fire Information Meeting tonight.
People driving in the area are reminded to be aware of the increased fire traffic and be careful.
