Containment Up to 15 Percent on the Millie Fire

Bozeman, MT – The Millie Fire, located 20 miles south of Bozeman on the Gallatin National Forest grew slowly today. The lightning-caused fire is 10,191 acres and 15 percent contained.
Crews made steady progress constructing and reinforcing fireline on the west, north and south sides of the fire. Aircraft dropped water on hot spots in the afternoon to minimize fire spread in the South Cottonwood Creek drainage.
Tom Suwyn, Incident Commander said, “We know it has been a long season for many of our firefighters and we appreciate that they are concentrating on working safely in extreme conditions to get this job done.”
The current weather pattern is forecast to continue over the next few days, which should allow firefighters to make steady progress.
Resources assigned to the incident include twelve crews, 23 engines, four helicopters, nine dozers and four water tenders for a total of 522 personnel.
Another Information Meeting was held tonight to keep community members updated on the fire.  The next community meeting will be held September 6 at 6 p.m. at the Hope Lutheran Church, 2152 W. Graf St., in Bozeman.
The firefighting organization is most appreciative of the continuous outpouring of support from the community.
