Update Sales Road Fire

Update at 7:00 p.m. Saturday January 14th

According to Incident Commander Mike Ulmen, Fire Chief Manhattan Fire, the fire is 90% contained and under control.  There are hot spots on the north side of the East Gallatin River and crews will be working through the night mopping up.  The estimated size is between 100 and 120 acres.  The fire was fast moving and wind driven.  A total of 77 fire firghters,  Carish Helicopters, a DNRC helicopter and a road grader from the Gallatin County Road Dept made the difference in stopping this fire before it did more damage.  Ulmen thanks the residents in the area for their help and composure during this unusual event. The are still no reports of injuries or structures lost. 

Agencies that responded to this event; Manhattan FD, Amsterdam FD, Centeral Valley FD, Three Forks FD, Fort Ellis FD, Bozeman FD, Rae/Sourdough FDs, Gallatin River Ranch FD, Gateway FD, Bridger Canyon FD and Willow Cr. FD, Sheriff’s Office, Highway Patrol, County Road Dept, DNRC, Carish Helicopters. 

According to Sheriff Brian Gootkin the cause of the fire is under investigation.   

At about 1:30 p.m. this afternoon Manhattan Fire dept was dispatched to a wildland fire north of Manhattan endangering structures. Currently 11 Fire Departments, 2 helicopters and 8 deputy sheriff’s are working to contain the fire. Deputies have contacted 50 residences in the area to make sure they are aware of the current conditions and are prepared to take whatever action may be necessary . There are NO evacuation orders in effect. The estimated size of the fire at this time is about 100 acres.  At this time no structures have been damaged.
