The male had been skiing In the Middle Basin area of Beehive Basin and was last seen around 12:00 p.m. according to the reporting party.

Big Sky Search and Rescue personnel hiked in to the area from the top of Beehive Basin Loop and from the North Fork Trailhead. The snow was approximately one foot deep and the temperature was around 20 degrees. Unfortunately the skier did not have a GPS or transceiver to communicate his location.

The Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the outstanding professionals that volunteer their time to make sure that a lost or missing person makes it home safely.

Sheriff Gootkin would like to remind everyone to stay together when exploring the backcountry. Another good tip is to carry some form of communications and location technology with you to assist you when you get turned around in the vast wilderness of the Montana landscape.
