On August 18, 2012, at approximately 11:56 PM, the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a 57 year-old male who was overdue from a dirt bike ride in the Bear Canyon area.
After family and friends looked for him and were only able to locate his dirt bike, the Gallatin County Search and Rescue was contacted. With the assistance of a Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office coordinator, a hasty search utilizing ATV’s and pickups was activated.
At approximately 5:50 AM the next morning, the missing man was located. The man had sustained a shoulder injury, but was otherwise okay. He was taken to Bozeman Deaconess Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
Sheriff Gootkin would like to remind everyone that things can change quickly when recreating in the backcountry. So always be prepared for the unexpected and always let someone know where you’ll be going.
