At 4:15 PM, the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a fire in the Trail Creek area close to I-90. Eight Gallatin County Deputies responded along with the Sheriff’s Office Command vehicle. We issued approximately 25 evacuation WARNINGS to residents in the Mountain Moose Road area . The Park County Sheriff’s Office and Montana Highway Patrol assisted with traffic control. No roads were closed and there were no structures damaged. Fire agencies including Fort Ellis, Central Valley, Rae Sourdough, Gallatin Gateway, Bridger Canyon, Amsterdam, and the Gallatin National Forest provided 50-60 firefighters along with the DNRC helicopter. Update as of 7:50 p.m. August 2 Thursday
The fire is estimated at 3 acres. Probable cause is a lighting strike on 7/31. Fire Crews are confident that progress of the fire is halted but warn local residents to be vigilant especially if wind conditions change. Crew will be on the scene over night conducting mop up operations. There are still no evacuations ordered and no road closures.
