(Bozeman, Mont.) The annual Search and Rescue Rendezvous will be held in Bozeman at the fairgrounds this Friday and Saturday. It is an annual gathering of volunteer rescuers from across the state. Training is provided from various subject matter experts. This years classes include; Man Tracking, Lost Person Behavior, GPS Navigation, Low Angle Rescue, Alzheimer’s and Dementia Searches, Avalanche Science, K-9 scent exposure, Risk Management and others.
Search and Rescue in Montana, as with most western states, is under the control of the county sheriff and performed by mostly volunteer rescuers.
There will be public access on Saturday – see below.
Search and Rescue Show and Tell – If you have ever wondered about the equipment Search and Rescue uses to find people in the backcountry or get injured people from the mountains to the hospital, this is your chance. Search and Rescue vehicles and equipment will be available for visitors on Saturday, September 17, 1-5 pm, in Building 2 at the fairgrounds. Come meet the Gallatin County Command Vehicle, rescue helicopters, tracked ATVs, special stretchers for coming down steep mountains, and fast boats for water rescues. Free, sponsored by Gallatin County Search and Rescue and the Gallatin County Public Safety Foundation.
